This year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of one of Washington's most prominent woman owned businesses, Cathie Gill, Inc. The 1985 sale of "The Rocks" to Senator & Mrs. Jay Rockefeller, the highest home sale in the nation that year, provided the seed capital. Although purposefully boutique in size, Cathie Gill, Inc has still managed the impressive feat of handling over $1 billion worth of transactions, with an emphasis on the high-end market. Many of her sales have been DC records, including the sale of 2850 Woodland Drive, the highest sale so far in 2010. Given that Washington is an international city, many have involved that component, including the over $21 million sale of the estate of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on Foxhall Road to the developers of Phillips Park. As with many of her sales, Cathie represented both the buyer and seller in that transaction, as well as on another notable international sale, the Finnish Embassy opposite the Vice President's mansion on Massachusetts Avenue. The firm only takes on a certain number of listings at any given moment in order to ensure the highest level of hands on service, complimented by what she considers the best marketing in the industry and a comprehensive knowledge of the marketplace.
Although she has brokered sales in most every Washington enclave, as an almost forty year resident of Spring Valley she holds the distinction of having sold more homes in that particular neighborhood than any other active agent. In an industry where there are no shortcuts to success, as someone who truly loves the business, Cathie still believes no one works harder than she does on behalf of her clients.
